My first Grandson

It was such a wonderfully happy day for me back in August 2019 when my son, his partner and her little boy came to stay.
They handed me a gift wrapped present which I wasn’t expecting. When I opened it, it was a book for Grandparents I thought it was quite an unusual gift but opened it for a look and there on the first page was a baby scan, I was going to be a Grandmother. I was overwhelmed I couldn’t have been happier. I was already blessed to have the love of my husband’s two grandchildren and my son’s partner’s little boy but this was one of my very own.
Little did any of us know then that this pandemic would challenge us all so much.
I appreciate how lucky I am, I really do, my family are all safe and not everyone can say that.
My beautiful Grandson arrived in March, a week early and we jumped in the car and set off the 400 miles to meet him.
He is perfect a big bouncing boy and my heart was stolen I felt blessed and I was so nervous to hold this precious bundle but as I sat there in the hospital with my Grandson in my arms I knew my life had changed and for the better.
4 days later we kissed every one good bye and drove home already looking forward to my son, his partner and these 2 precious boys visiting at Easter.
Easter has been and gone and of course we didn’t get to see them.
For me, I’m thankful my little Grandson arrived early and I did get to meet him but it’s hard watching him grow and not being able to share in it.
I have nothing but total admiration for my son and his partner, and indeed anyone bringing a new life into this world during lockdown. No family support, no midwife checks and not even being able to register the birth.
Every day I wake up and I’m thankful we’re all still well and another day nearer the end of this isolation, but most of all a day nearer to holding my first Grandchild again.
Stay safe everyone.
