Dylan’s Transgender Story

My name is Dylan, I’m 22 years old and I’m from Chester, UK. For the first 20 years of my life I was known by another name, a completely different alias and persona. I grew up in loving and open minded family environment, with members of my family being part of the LGBTQ+ community, and from a young age I was of course curious as to why these family members were attracted to the same sex, so I asked questions and they appropriately managed to answer them and some what educate me on the topic. From then I too, was open minded towards the LGBTQ+ community and it became a normality in my life. During high school I found myself attracted to women in films and female celebrities but I would brush it off because I was “open minded”, but it was much more than that. At 15 years old I came out as bisexual, and engaged in my first relationship with a girl. Coming out to everybody was actually easier than I thought it would be, as everyone was already expecting it. For the next 4 years of my life I experimented like many people do, and came to realise that I didn’t really like men and I had ideas in my head that I wanted to look like them but thought it was impossible. In 2018 I met my current girlfriend, Daisy, and I quickly started feeling anxious about my role in the relationship. I wanted to appear and feel more masculine, so I started openly talking to Daisy about it and she helped me come to terms with the fact that I am transgender. After that I began researching where I could get diagnosed for treatment and quickly got myself booked in for an appointment. My first appointment was in London on the 8th of November 2019, I got diagnosed there and then, and started testosterone on the 14th of April 2020! Today is the 14th of December 2020 which marks 8 months on testosterone and I am so pleased to say that I am happy, I am on my way to becoming the man I want to be and I can’t wait for the future. I look forward to one day getting my top surgery so that I can feel even more like the man I am supposed to be, I haven’t quite got the funds for that yet but all in good time! Thank you for reading!
