Spot of Tuesday Trouble

I was on my way to bowling and was excited to see some friends after a hard days work. Got into town a bit early as I had grabbed a cheeky subway and was driving with a nicely full belly ready to get a strike or two.

In my rear view mirror I could see a police van with the flashing lights on, so naturally assumed they were on their way to stop a crime somewhere and pulled in on the pavement to let them pass… but they didn’t. Panicking a little, I moved on, thinking there must not have been room and that I was obstructing them from reaching their crime scene so sped up a little looking for a better place to let them pass. As I came up to a small roundabout (a few meters on from where I pulled in) the police van put on their siren.

I still thought they were trying to get past me so hurried my way to a carpark entrance where I pulled in and stopped, only for the police van to stop behind me!

The police woman comes over, a slightly suspicious look on her face and says to me “You took a while to pull over”, to which I quickly babbled in response that I went in to let them past and that I’ve never been pulled over before – potentially incomprehensible as I was nervous. Turns out I just had a light that had gone out on the back of my car, and after checking the rest of my lights she sent me on to Halfords, which apparently never shuts.

It might have been a good thing as apparently my other light was about to go to, but I’m still blaming the incident on my shocking performance at bowling. Not only did I not get a strike or even a split with the barriers up, I came last and managed to throw a ball over the barrier straight into the gutter. All nerves, I’m sure.

Life lesson, next time I’ll wait a bit longer when pulling over to let a police car pass…
