So here I was really living and experiencing all life had to offer in a non-tourist beach town in South Crete. It was brilliant every day, and every day was hot. My two best new friends showed me around, and one of them had a motorbike so we often got to visit the most remote places even public transport never reached.
Since these lads were living on Crete so long, they knew the best times people n places to get work, and we did often. Sometimes just one of us was needed, so we took jobs in turns, then after getting paid that night, a small party usually followed, outdoor barbi by the beach; it was really living.
The weather was so good most months, on calm nights we often went swimming. One night I’ll never forget, went swimming n diving only to see tiny lights under the water, millions of them. The lads told me it was plantain. It didn’t often happen, but when it did, you’d never forget the experience.
The work we got varied, sometimes bamboo cutting, other times Greenhouse work, then when they were ripe, the Olives. This was the hardest work, and the best paid. Then I also got to know the Captain of the three Egyptian fishing boats and got work on a boat many times. They used Sonar! Located a shoal, surrounded them with the three boats, nets down and not many escaped. Then they were put into massive ice containers. I learned so much, and when we got home maybe 5am, the Cook would make a massive Paella with all the choice fish and rice, it was the best food. The fishermen didn’t drink, but because I did, they usually had a few cold beers for me. Great times, great people.
Be careful if you’re ever working in a Greenhouse on Crete, they used severe toxins on their plants, as I learned the hard way! One day I got this new job, working with Tomatoes. OK that was fine, was shown what to do, n got to work. About 30mins later I was so thirsty, well I was in a greenhouse in a very hot climate. So I looked about n found a small, looked empty plastic bottle, filled it with water from a tap, and had a good drink, great, so went back to work, slowly got new strange sensations which kept getting worse,
Then I knew something was definitely wrong. I was poisoned by extremely toxic chemicals! I made it outside and sat down, then fell down, and my whole body started to Lock. One of my co-workers saw what had happened n got me fresh clean water and although it was very hard to even drink by now, I managed some, and thought to myself, this is it so! Here’s where I die! But I didn’t and slowly it was easing and passing, but for about half an hour, I was dying, but guess wasn’t my time just yet. So be careful with what you drink around greenhouses. When I could walk, they sent me home to rest, n that’s what I did. Another learning curve that day for sure.
So that’s how things went month by month, different jobs, new experiences, new people to meet, but always the good friends I’d made were about most days, and many a good party was had. When the olives are ripe, there’s lots of hard work to be done. The big sacks are so heavy, another man has to hoist it on your back, then you walk to the truck or lorry n stack, all day, early morning, late evening, with good food n wine on breaktime. A good experience, glad I did it. But when the work is finished, and the wages got, its Party time again, and often time to visit new parts of Crete n be a real tourist again.
One time after a party, I decided to go on an Adventure up North, on my own, see new things n places n enjoy having money again. I only brought a sleeping bag and found a safe place in a forest overlooking the bay of Rethemno. This is where I slept most nights, n by day, walked about, drinking and eating, enjoying myself, as I worked hard, n now it was RnR time. When a person arrives in a new place by themselves, its often forgotten or overlooked how safe you really are! And who’s watching your daily movements n habits, I should have been more careful and not so trusting, that I learned! And learned the hard way.
So one day I’m on a local beach, and I bought a large bottle of Ouzo. I found a spot where not many people were on, so I claimed my own piece and began drinking, and feeling happy all was going well, so far anyway. I can’t remember how much of the bottle I got through, but have very hazy recollections of being carried, legs n arms. I was now learning the hard way!
The very next memory I have is waking up with a white sheet over me, can’t move because I’m tied! I see two, what looked like doctors, and about to do something to me! Something dangerous. I remember I half sat up n shouted loud as I possibly could, then another jab of a needle in my left arm. I was wheeled into a dark corner, suppose to let the drugs kick in properly, so I wouldn’t be a nuisance to them and their evil work. So as I’m lying there tied down hands and feet, a clear Voice speaks in my ear, and says Kevin, if you don’t get out of here in five minutes, you’re going to Die! I didn’t question where the voice was coming from but replied, I can’t move, I’m tied down, I need Help, I said, maybe only in my mind, but next I look down and I’m untied, I’m taking cloth ties from my ankles and wrists.
The Voice then said, quick go this way, a hallway, no body about, a window, it said, climb out here n go. I did and heard no more of that clear voice. As I staggered away, I looked back. I had climbed out a basement apartment, private, bad energy. I looked at my left arm, it was black n purple and many needle marks! I was lucky I had a disposable camera and took a few photos of my left arm, and the state of it, so when I told this story, I had proof also, because even with this proof, people said, ahh you dreamt it all, or what were you on!?
The only things I was on, were the bad drugs they pumped my arm with, and it wasn’t done careful, like in their eyes, I was Dead already. So who was the Voice that untied me!? Wasn’t my time to go, again, thankfully. A friend I told this story to, who is very Spiritual, said, they feel it was even worse than a simple organ harvesting, that they were going to Sacrifice me in a very painful way! And an Angel or Alien saved me. Whatever the Truth, I’m very grateful, to have gotten away with my life, one more time, and experienced another, Learning Curve
